                                                                           ::: Street Art Workshops

In June 2013, we invited Hugh Rose to participate in our Visiting Artist Programme and to lead a series of four workshops during Investigation & Discovery Week. Twenty boys from Years 7 and 8 had chosen to participate in a series of workshops and each would get the chance to spend one morning working with Hugh.

It is good for our students to meet practicing artists and to find out about how they make their work and where the inspiration for it comes from. Hugh is inspired by art from all around the world, including Aboriginal painting, Aztec art and the designs created within native American culture. He was able to show some examples from his image bank to help inspire the students working with him.

Hugh is also very interested in collaborative art and in the workshops, students were asked to work in pairs. This meant that ideas had to be developed together through negotiation. After a period of planning, ideas were drawn out on to the large boards and areas of colour filled in with emulsion paint. Once this was completed and the paint was dry, the more intricate line work could begin. Bearing in mind that each painting in this exhibition was completed in about three hours, I think you will agree that the results are very impressive!
